Professor Yong Sung Park received his B.S. in Civil Engineering and M.S. in Civil, Urban and Geosystem Engineering from Seoul National University and his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University. After working at Cornell as a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer, he served as assistant and associate professor at the University of Dundee before joining Seoul National University in 2019. He has received international research and teaching fellowships from organizations including the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and the Higher Education Academy.
His research in coastal engineering, hydraulics, and fluid mechanics investigates how natural landforms and engineered structures shape flows and waves in coasts, estuaries, and rivers. By integrating field observations with physics-based models, theory, experiments, numerical simulations, and data-driven methods, he develops more accurate techniques for measuring and predicting morphology, waves, currents, and sediment transport.
