Professor Jong Kwon Choe received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from The Cooper Union and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. After postdoctoral research at Stanford University and service as an assistant professor at Clarkson University, he joined Seoul National University in 2016 and is now a professor. His research focuses on sustainable environmental technologies, including water-treatment processes, and he contributes to professional societies, international journals, and the World Health Organization's technical work on drinking-water quality guidelines.
He develops water-treatment and energy-resource-recovery technologies using nanomaterials and advanced materials. By integrating environmental engineering, green chemistry, and sustainability assessment and optimization, his group seeks to improve conventional and emerging water and wastewater treatment. Research includes advanced oxidative and reductive treatment of emerging contaminants, control of transformation by-products, catalytic processes, resource recovery, and technologies that minimize environmental footprints.
