Professor Yongju Choi received his B.S. in Civil, Urban and Geosystem Engineering and M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Seoul National University and his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University. Following postdoctoral research at Stanford, he joined Seoul National University in 2014. He teaches water and wastewater treatment and water-quality management and is active as an officer and editor in professional societies and journals.
His Water Quality and Environmental Laboratory develops field-applicable technologies grounded in a deep understanding of scientific principles. Research topics include nitrogen recovery from wastewater using membrane contactors and solvent-based crystallization, upgrading recovered resources, performance prediction for adsorption-based treatment of PFAS-contaminated water, development of new PFAS sorbents, and in-situ remediation of contaminated sediments.
